What is the Emerging Professional’s Companion?

The EPC is an online internship resource for emerging professionals. Primarily intended as a means for interns to supplement and bolster their knowledge as soon-to-be-licensed architects and to earn IDP credit, the EPC can also be used by students to gain exposure to practice issues while still in school, or even as an accompaniment to co-op or part-time employment before they graduate.

How do I use the EPC?

Focus your work with the Companion on topics that interest you or subjects for which you need additional support. If you need assistance in determining the level appropriate for you, we suggest you consult your professor, supervisor, or mentor. You can begin to earn IDP credit while in school. Consult with your IDP Coordinator and refer to the IDP Guidelines for eligibility.

I want to start using the EPC; how can I get more information?

More students each year are seeking internships before graduation, whether during the school year, as a summer job, or as part of their curriculum for credit. The EPC is a great way to get practice-based experienced either independently or working in groups. Most importantly, the Companion provides you with the opportunity to compile a personal portfolio of work that demonstrates independent initiative; it will serve you well for career advancement and access to future opportunities.

Where can I find additional information at my own school?

Each school of architecture has an "IDP Education Coordinator" who can provide additional information for faculty and students alike. You may find the list of IDP Education Coordinators here.
