What is the Emerging Professional’s Companion? The EPC is an online internship resource for emerging professionals. Primarily intended as a means for interns to supplement and bolster their knowledge as soon-to-be-licensed architects and to earn IDP credit, this resource can also be adapted by firms looking for in-house curricula for continuing education and training. How do I use the EPC for my firm's education curriculum?Whether your firm is just starting its in-house education program or is looking to supplement an existing program, the EPC will be a valuable resource for content. Through its professionally developed guides and tutorials, the EPC provides you with the latest information about the profession, and encourages your staff to think critically about how that information affects everyday practice. The EPC also provides a means to help interns earn some of their more difficult-to-get training credits so they can continue the path to licensure. Parallel workshops and study groups are an excellent way to bring together emerging professionals who are doing work with the Companion. Experts from your firm can lead the sessions, or the AIA can provide a list of experts who may be able to help you develop a program. And, don't forget, workshops can be offered as AIA continuing education credit to architects in your firm if the firm is an AIA/CES continuing education provider.
I'm a leader in my firm for education; how can I get more information about using the EPC?Staff development and retention are critical needs in today's architectural practice. As part of a firm's education effort, firm educators usually take responsibility for supplying information and resources on the licensure process, including IDP. The AIA provides a number of resources for you to pass along to your interns in the form of presentations, handouts, and practical exercises.
