The EPC is divided into 17 chapters that align with NCARB's 17 IDP experience areas. Below is a step-by-step guide to how interns and architects can get credit for work done with the EPC. Interns: Earn IDP Credit - Supplemental Experience for Core hours and Supplemental Experience for Elective hoursYou can earn up to 1,800 IDP hours through the EPC. Each activity is worth eight hours. Use the EPC 2012 to satisfy a portion of your IDP hour requirements. By successfully completing EPC activities, you can earn up to 40 core hours in each experience area. Please note: Interns can earn a maximum of 600 core minimum hours through EPC with no more than 40 core hours earned in any one of the IDP experience areas. If an intern has already completed the maximum allowable of 40 core minimum hours in a given experience area through any combination of supplemental experience, than EPC activities completed in that area will be credited as elective hours. Learn more about applying EPC activities as IDP core hours. You can also earn supplemental experience by successfully completing EPC 2012 Supplemental Experience for Elective activities (not claimed toward minimum required IDP training units). As always, your IDP Supervisor or Mentor must review, approve, and certify all of your completed EPC work. Steps to submitting for IDP credit:
Your IDP Supervisor or Mentor will receive an email prompting him/her to certify your hours of EPC completion. Please remember to keep digital documentation of your completed core and supplemental activities for three years following completion. If you completed exercises in the previous edition of the EPC (before May 1, 2012) and need to submit them, please e-mail idp@aia.org for instructions. Supervisors and Mentors: AIA Continuing EducationThe AIA encourages IDP Supervisors and IDP Mentors to self-report the time spent preparing for a meeting with an intern and/or the time spent meeting with the intern as a continuing education opportunity. The AIA suggests to report two learning units annually, but does not cap the amount of LU's you may self-report. The units should be self-reported under the Professional and Community Service category on the AIA Self-Report Form. Please note, the units are not HSW and are not recognized by all jurisdictions. Steps to submitting for continuing education credit:
Architects: AIA Continuing EducationArchitects can gain AIA Continuing Education credit for work done with the EPC. The credit can be used to count toward the AIA mandatory requirement and is accepted by most states for their licensee requirements. Steps to submitting for continuing education credit:
